Editorial Standards

Accuracy and verification

Stories move through a distinct verification step before they are considered for publication. Verification is separate from writing and includes checking the central facts, source material and local relevance. This process cannot promise error-free publishing, but it makes verification a required part of the editorial workflow.

Clarity and context

Coverage favours clear, contextual writing over volume. Headlines, summaries and article pages should help Calgary readers understand what happened, why it matters and what is known without exaggeration.

Editorial responsibility

Sam, Calgary News Live’s founder and editor, is responsible for editorial standards, story selection, corrections and final publication decisions. Commercial enquiries do not influence those decisions.

Media and image responsibility

Images are reviewed separately from written content. Calgary News Live displays only approved images with documented usage rights and clear attribution where required. If an image has not been cleared, it is not published with the story.

Corrections and updates

Corrections and material updates are handled separately from first publication and disclosed on the affected article. The Corrections page explains how to report a factual concern and how changes are presented.

Bylines and publication dates

Every article carries a public byline and publication date. Initial coverage uses the organizational byline “By Calgary News Live Staff.” A named contributor appears only after that public byline has been separately reviewed and approved; an internal reviewer is not automatically presented as the author.

Publication dates use a specific, formatted date and time rather than a relative label such as “a few hours ago.” An “Updated” date appears only after a material change.

Updates, clarifications and corrections are not interchangeable

An update adds new information as a story develops. A clarification improves wording that was accurate but could be misunderstood. A correction fixes a factual error. Material changes are identified on the article rather than made silently.

Public messages and advertising cannot bypass review

Information received through an approved public email address cannot bypass editorial review. Advertising or a commercial relationship never determines what Calgary News Live covers, how a story is reported, or whether coverage is favourable. Email enquiries are available, while website forms, secure uploads, advertising booking and payment remain inactive.
