CALGARY — Calgary police have charged a 17-year-old boy in connection with two armed robberies at local businesses in June, while investigators continue searching for two additional suspects.

The first incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on June 16 at Carrie’s VIP Body Care, located at 2016 25 Avenue N.E. Police allege three people entered the business, including one carrying a firearm. Those inside took shelter in a back room and contacted police. The suspects left in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee believed to have been stolen.

About 80 minutes later, police believe the same group entered Bud Mart at 20 Copperpond Passage S.E. During that robbery, an employee and a customer were allegedly threatened and assaulted. The group fled with cash and cannabis products.

Investigators recovered the suspected getaway vehicle in Woodbine on June 23. Evidence collected during the investigation led police to identify one of the suspects.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy in Saddle Ridge on October 6. A subsequent search of his residence resulted in the seizure of a loaded handgun, ammunition and a cellphone.

The teen faces multiple charges, including two counts of robbery with a restricted or prohibited firearm, two counts of disguise with intent and one count of pointing a firearm. Police say additional charges are pending.

His next court appearance is scheduled for October 21. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are asking for assistance identifying two remaining suspects, described as males approximately 18 to 20 and 16 to 18 years old. Both were reportedly wearing black clothing and face coverings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or provide anonymous information through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
