Calgary police have laid an assault charge against a 59-year-old woman accused of striking an elderly woman in the face during an apparently random attack downtown earlier this month.
The incident happened on Oct. 6, 2026, around 4:50 p.m., as the 92-year-old victim was walking with a friend in the 200 block of 15 Avenue S.E. Police say an unfamiliar woman approached the pair, hit the victim in the face, and then walked away. The victim suffered minor injuries and later went home before reporting the attack to police.
Investigators determined that the two women did not know each other and believe the assault had no apparent motive. The Calgary Police Service's Victim Assistance Support Team has since reached out to the victim with support services.
Four days after the attack, on Oct. 10, 2026, officers found and arrested the suspect downtown. Juliana Isabella Bodor, 59, of Calgary, now faces one count of assault. She is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14, 2026.
Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky of the District 1 General Investigations Unit said the seemingly random nature of the attack on an older woman out for an afternoon walk was deeply troubling, and said he was glad officers were able to apprehend the person responsible. He added that police remain focused on addressing public safety downtown by targeting unsafe behaviour through enforcement, patrols and supportive outreach.
